Gluten free versions of popular wheat-containing foods.
It was called Nature Valley “Baked Oat Bites,” but to me it
looked just like Kellogg’s “Cracklin’ Oat Bran.”
You have to understand, as a child I LOVED Cracklin’ Oat
Bran. It was too sugary for my mom to let us kids eat it as cereal, so we were
only allowed to eat it in small doses like trail mix.
I remember many times working on homework in my room, when
my mom would come in with my allotment of Cracklin’ Oat Bran, peanuts, and
dried fruit (cherries, cranberries, or raisins.)
Good moms know when to compromise, and my mom is a good mom.
The Nature Valley Oat Bites are gluten free. They are still
sugary and they have soy in them, but they are a treat. Mom also brought home
Cracklin’ Oat Bran for the wheat-eaters in our family.
This is part three in a series of gluten free products I’ve tried. In case you missed them, here are Part One: Bread, Part Two, and Part four.
Another guilty pleasure I enjoy are knock-off Ritz bits.
Lance makes gluten free sandwich crackers in two flavors—peanut butter and
cheese. They are both delicious!
Another fun knock off product is Pop Tarts. Glutino makes
gluten free toaster pastries in Apple Cinnamon (shown here) and Strawberry. Because they're high in sugar, we only eat toaster pastries for dessert.
All these products—the Oat Bites, Sandwich crackers, and
Toaster Pastries are from Meijer.
As always, I'd love to hear what gluten free products you enjoy!
